Everybody wants to be the very best, like no one ever was. To have their name put forth in the history books as somebody of note, whether it be as an inventor, explorer or a Pokemon League Champion.

Of course, anybody that wants to be anything other than the last is an idiot.

Since the day he was born, Clint has been competitive to a fault. In kindergarten he was always the one that had to build the biggest block tower. In elementary school he had to be the one that climbed the highest up the tree. By the time he was in junior high that focus had naturally shifted to Pokemon.

At that age every child found themselves caught up in the various facets of the Pokemon world. Most, if they had any plans, had vague ones at best. Clint was under no such confusions. He was going to go out and beat both the Gym and Contest circuits, collecting all eight badges and the eight ribbons. If he did that he'd not only be famous but he'd be cool. Cooler than anybody else before him. He'd have fast cars, hot girlfriends and money to blow.

Of course, at age twelve there wasn't a whole lot that Clint could do other than plan out his course. He knew, of course, that he'd need to see a Professor before he left. That's what all the real Trainers did and, if he was lucky, he'd be able to get a Pokemon out of it. From there he'd make his way to Vermillion. It was, after all, the first Gym and Contest opportunity and the one with the most lenient prerequisites. If he left when he was sixteen he'd be just old enough for all the important things and, hopefully, could have a bit of an edge.

And so Clint waited for his sixteenth birthday to come, counting the days. When he was fourteen he was able to get his first Pokemon, a Machop he promptly named Huge that was nearly as competitive and far more vain him. The Machop seemed to be constantly admiring itself in reflections but Clint didn't mind; a little bit of vanity couldn't do anything to hurt his chances in a Contest.

When the clock struck midnight on his sixteenth birthday Clint already had his meager supplies packed and was already en route. He had changed his travel plans weeks ago due to Oak giving a lecture in Cerulean rather than being at his lab in Pallet, but it wasn't a huge issue. By the time he was in Cerulean it was the day of Oak's lecture. All he had to do was sneak in, find him after he gave his speech and get his blessing or whatever before he set out. Even know he doesn't quite know why, but that's how Red, Blue and Green all started. If he wanted to be the very best, he had to go through Oak.

And he was going to be the very best.

  • To be the very best, like no one ever was.
  • Complete both the Gym Circuit as well as the Contest Circuit.
  • Look extremely cool while doing it.
  • Celebrate by taking hots chicks out for rides in his cool car.
