The Ride to the Top

Throughout the course of his life, Fawkes has found many common saying to be a lie. A watched pot does, in fact eventually boil. The 'i before e' rules was entirely a myth. The greatest lie, however is a simple one.

"Some are born great and some have greatness thrust upon them."

Well, the first part was true. If somebody is born a lord they will remain a lord unless possessed by a particular brand of stupidity. A man born a giant will remain a giant unless he finds himself shortened by an axe. A man born a psychic will always be a psychic.

No, the lie is in the second bit. Nobody truly has greatness thrust upon them. They battled their way to the spot, lying, stabbing, cheating to ensure that when greatness fell upon somebody it fell upon them.

So it was with Fawkes. Born to a minor lord with little land and even less intellect little greatness was expected of him. His father couldn't even read, yet Fawkes taught himself. His father looked the country bumpkin in finery whenever the lords met in Galla, yet Fawkes learned the finery of the court. He forced himself to remember every face, every conversation, every flash of light as he practiced for the courts. He learned their speech, their clothing, everything. His memory was perfect, flawless. He would never forget a face, or a name or even some trick of a knight's Pokemon.

Despite all this, when Fawkes finally applied for a position in the court all he was offered was that of a page to a drunken fool. He, of course, took it.

Fawkes worked day and night, becoming the ideal court connoisseur. His manners became the best. With well-placed bribes he gained access to the best tailor. With even better placed bribes he moved from one fool to the next, slowly climbing the ranks as a simple steward. However, it was not entirely without its benefits. A steward, especially one from a minor holdfast, is rarely paid any particular mind to. They're a piece of the scenery, not a living, breathing person.

And so secrets became Fawkes' trade. What court official was having an affair? Where's a lords bastard hiding? What kind of perfume does the lady wear? What hitman could remove a certain informant? Sometimes Fawkes had to kill but, frankly, it was never a real issue. Most people were simply pawns, pieces in the game. It was impossible to win without sacrificing a few pawns, no?

Little by little Fawkes gained his own peculiar currency. Secrets were worth more than gold in Galla and his bribes became better until, eventually, Fawkes found himself the steward to a certain Weildon of Jannis Hill, the Master of Ceremonies. The man didn't have power in the conventional sense but the ability to plan functions carried some weight with it. Small favors, learning of deals, everything. While the man was stuffy, arrogant and a bit cruel, Weildon is simply another stepping stone for Fawkes.

A step towards the crown.

Every actions takes him just a bit closer to the throne. Bit by bit, day by day, lie by lie.

Goals

Fawkes goal is simple and uncomplicated. He wants power and all that comes with it. He wants respect. He wants wealth. For too long in the courts he has been looked down upon, seen as less than all the great lords and ladies. Frankly, Fawkes is tired of that, tired of all of it. He has the skill to become incredibly powerful and he simply deserves that power more than the fools that are currently in possession of it.

Pokémon History
Jay - Met at Level 2, Starter. Little birds are surprisingly useful, especially when said bird has been a constant companion throughout the life of a Trainer.
Jab - Met at Level 12, Gift. In the court there are many ways of getting information. Some are more dangerous than others. Stealing thoughts from the dreams of somebody is perhaps chief among these, something that Jab excels at.
