Pteyrl, #583A, The Fossil Egg
Typing: Flying
Height: 2'6" (Standing)
Weight: 14.9 lbs.
Length: 3'11" Tip to Tail
Width: 1'2" (Body) 8'4" (Wingspan)
Egg Group: Flying
Diet: Pteyrl are carnivores, preying on many small mammalian creatures that they may easily grab while flying.
Characteristics: Pteyrl are very similar in body shape to Aerodactyl. Their skin is grey like Aerodactyl's, although it has an obvious purple hue to it. Their leathery skin is not so covered in callouses and scars as to act as a powerful armor at this stage. In fact, their skin is quite soft. Their wings are quite large, especially for their size, allowing them to carry their considerable bulk into the air. Pteyrl are extremely hardy; unlike more modern birds that have sacrificed defenses for aerial capabilities, these Pokemon still weigh quite a bit for their size. They are possessed of razor sharp fangs that replenish themselves much as a shark's would. They also have claws, but these are barely large enough to warrant mention. Finally, they have a long, slender tail with a rudderlike flap at the end that allows the making of sharp turns as well as limited offensive capabilities.
Behavior: Pteyrl are, quite simply, a primal hunter. In their small mind there is no remorse, no compassion. There is only the hunter and the prey. This likely proved a boon for them in the ancient days; fossil records have shown the Aerodactyl line to have been extremely efficient hunters. In the modern world, Pteyrl are criticized for it. For them to view their trainer as anything more than a stronger creature is a rare occurrence and the Trainer deserves credit in those rare situations. They are a very basic Pokemon. While they are possessed of intelligence, much of it goes towards the better catching of prey. As a hunter, they are unparallelled. They are naturally untrusting, wary of the touch of a human. More than one overzealous scientist has lost a finger to one of these. Through observation of Pteryl reintroduced to the wild under close supervision, it has been deduced that they were a largely solitary Pokemon. Unlike many species, they do not take a mate for life, instead simply gathering during mating season. The male leaves soon after the eggs are laid, leaving the female to deal with them. Almost as soon as the Pokemon is capable of flight it leaves to nest, seeking prey and its own territory.
Habitat: Pteyrl are not found in the modern world except in the areas untouched by time. In their own time, they tended to live in temperate areas, usually in large plains. The nest of Aerodactyl were located on large cliffs, far above the reach of other Pokemon.
Population: Pteyrl are extremely rare, mostly due to requiring either the (extremely dangerous) breeding of an Aerodactyl, and as such are rarely found by trainers. They are almost unheard of in the wild, and if they escape a lab it is often well publicized.
Relation with other Pokemon: Pteyrl do not form relations with other Pokemon. They are the hunter, the others are the prey.
In the World: Pteyrl were not even thought to exist for many years until the accidental discovery of a fossilized egg. Upon utilizing the Fossil Reanimator upon it, a Pteyrl emerged, proving the existence of this Pokemon. Since then Breeders have mastered to process and are able to breed Pteyrl quite easily.
Lifespan: Pteyrl are extremely long-lived, even without evolution. They can easily reach ages in excess of 50 years.
Egg: A Pteyrl Egg is the same hue as their skin. It is about 2' tall and another 1'7" across. They are fairly light due to the flying nature of the Pokemon.
Breeding: Pteyrl will rarely breed with another Pteyrl. Usually they will not breed until they are mature. Being a very savage, primal race it is dangerous to allow any species to breed with this Pokemon. One should make sure the other partner is capable of taking a few hits before trying to breed them.
