Scythling, #238A, The Hunting Bug
Typing: Bug
Height: 1'11"
Weight: 27.2 lbs.
Length: 2'4"
Width: 0'8"
Egg Group: Bug
Diet: Carnivorous. Hunts small game as well as small Pokemon such as Rattata.
Characteristics: A Scythling, much like its older brethren, is possessed of long, powerful legs and bladed arms. While neither as swift or as strong as a full grown Scyther, a Scythling has a few key characteristics that make it a dangerous foe. While its wings are not yet developed enough for flight, it possess incredible jumping capabilities, allowing it to leap many times its height into the air. Its long bladed arms have not yet acquired the weighted head that allows a Scyther to hit so hard although the lighter weight does allow them to attack more rapidly. They are very agile as well, capable of running swiftly and striking fast. As a natural hunter, they have keen senses that allow them to approach unsuspecting prey to attack with a single powerful attack, allowing it to swiftly debilitate its foe. Its carapace, a darker shade of green than a Scyther's, provides a sort of natural camouflage, especially in tall grass.
Behavior: Scythling tend to be born in groups, however, unlike other Pokemon such as this, they are almost always independent. After the eggs are laid the Scyther leaves. Upon hatching, the Scythlings must set out on their own for food or starve to death. This sudden exposure to the beginning of life forges these Pokemon into keen hunters. While not exceptionally intelligent, their instincts are a powerful driving force, allowing the Pokemon to survive when others would not. They often remain in packs, instincts guiding them in the hunt. A pack of Scythling can be a dangerous and persistent foe, although their competitive nature, not yet tempered by experience, can often prove to be their downfall. While they themselves often set elaborate traps involving flanking and hit-and-run tactics, they have not yet developed the brainpower to identify a trap against them, one of the few things that keeps these young Scyther from being a death sentence. A trainer must be careful when training a Scythling; they are an extremely stubborn species and require a special hand when training or risk losing that hand.
Habitat: Scythling share the same habitat with Scyther; they often roam forests, jungles, and grasslands. They have also been found in marshes, albeit rarely.
Population: Scythling packs are rare in the wild, something that other species can be grateful for. Even in areas where they are common, finding one is difficult. Scythling tend to hunt in packs of six to eight, although packs as large as a dozen have been documented.
Relation with other Pokemon: Scythlings organize themselves into packs. They rarely have positive relations with other species, mostly due to their hunter nature.
In the World: Scythling are one of the most common myths used by mothers to keep their children in town and away from the tall grass. They have been known to hunt children, so perhaps this isn't unfounded.
Lifespan: A Scythling commonly lives 5-6 years if it does not evolve.
Egg: A Scythling egg commonly takes around two weeks to hatch. A Scythling egg is small (about 7-8 inches tall), weighs very little and is a dark shade of green that is hard to make out against the grass.
Breeding: A Scythling is not yet mature enough to breed until it is around Level 20, although the practice of Breeding a baby is commonly frowned upon. It takes a lot of convincing to get a Scythling to breed with anything other than its own kind; any species that it thinks it could kill will commonly end up that way.
