Complications

Hidden Powers [Secret]
Serhe is very open about his Enhancer powers, and why wouldn't he? Enhancing your sight is hardly a dangerous power to have. However, Serhe keeps his far more interesting of turning off powers completely secret, although the Academy knows. Such a power would be extremely powerful in the wrong hands, and even when he uses it Serhe tries to distract people from the fact in whatever way possible.

Deadly Rock-Paper-Scissors [Quirk]
Serhe relies on knowing what category his opponent's powers are to actually combat them. While it's often easy to guess, he does somewhat rely on his ability to predict what his opponent might do to effectively use his powers. In addition, Serhe cannot affect any powers that have a Transformative background, for reasons he does not quite understand.

Shadow of Greatness [Reputation]
Annihilus, Serhe's older brother, is a very popular, and generally very powerful hero. With the ability to sap the energy out of a supersuit with a touch, Annihilus can turn the tide against almost any villain, making him in very high demand among other heroes. Serhe has a lot to live up to if he wants to be as powerful as his older brother.

I'm Not Useless! [Motivation]
Serhe doesn't want to be a hero to save people or anything else as noble as that; he wants to become a hero to surpass Annihilus, and show his entire family just how strong he really is. If he does some good along the way that's a plus (he is a relatively good person, after all), but getting payback at Annihilus for everything he has done is far more important.

Description

Serhe isn't a particularly imposing figure; what little strength he has comes exclusively from his Enhancer potential. To the average observer, he's a fairly tall, lanky individual, with eyes that seem to be constantly darting about. To a more practiced eye, he's almost exactly the same, although there are hints of a privileged upbringing. A confident stride, long blonde hair that has obviously been carefully cared for, and hands that aren't covered in the numerous small scars that manual labor bring with them. The only thing of any particular note is that Serhe has red eyes, although he tends to wear his hair in such a way as to hide that if at all possible.

Character Notes

Serhe was born to the powerful Nihilo family that had made its home in Flux due to his mother's uncanny ability to leech the energy out of a flux crystal with a touch, and transfer the energy elsewhere. His parents had made their fortune to act as chargers of sorts, mostly by transporting small amounts of crystal to remote communities that lack a sufficiently powerful Enhancer to keep their flux crystals operational. It was a bit of a niche power but, at the time, proved to be quite profitable.

Now, the Nihilo family is known for Tarro, Serhe's older brother and an accomplished hero who goes by the name Annihilus. While Annihilus has meager Enhancer powers, he inherited his parent's ability to strip the energy out of flux crystals, and gained the ability to redirect it in powerful blasts. In modern society, with most villains worth their salt wearing a supersuit, Annihilus is able to turn that boon into a weapon for himself by simultaneously stripping away power from his opponent and creating a powerful attack. He's worked in Bol, although at the moment he's mostly just working near his home.

With how powerful Tarro was, Serhe's parents had very high expectations for him.

They were sorely disappointed.

With barely noticeable Enhancement Powers that had his parent's convinced he was powerless for years, Serhe was convinced he was completely useless, and his family did everything they could to encourage that belief. His parents paid him hardly any attention when compared to the far more capable Tarro, and his older brother constantly bullied him in whatever way he could in an attempt to 'force him to use his powers'. While Tarro's Enhancer powers were mild, they were focused on speed and agility as opposed to Tarro's, that focused much more on his eyesight. Obviously, this meant that Serhe lost every sibling battle. Badly.

For most of his life he thought he was useless, until a fateful day when he first triggered his true, far more interesting power. Like most days, Tarro was terrorizing his younger brother by jabbing him faster than Serhe could ever hope to respond. The younger brother was futilely attempting to stop the attacks, to little success. As his rage and frustration grew, he felt his eyes burn for a moment and, for a brief second, his brother was moving just as slow as him. Serhe managed to catch his brother's hand, earning him a surprised look from his older brother and a series of jabs that were back at the proper speed. His brother called it a fluke, and seemed utterly convinced of that fact.

Still, Serhe knew that it hadn't been a fluke. He'd felt his eyes burn, and knew something had happened. At first, he thought he'd just Enhanced his eyesight to the point where his brother appeared to be moving slowly, only to find that was clearly not the case after some experimentation. It wasn't until he attempted the power on some of the flux crystals in the family training room that he realized how it worked.

At first, he could only negate Enhancer powers but, with practice and a fair bit of subterfuge, Serhe was able to enhance his powers to the point where he could strip the powers of anything save for Transformation ones. While ecstatic about his power, Serhe never shared it with his family. After all the years of abuse, Serhe wasn't going to give Tarro the satisfaction of knowing his tormenting had actually cause Serhe to gain powers and, in any case, his was the kind of power that worked far better if it was a secret. Still, without formal training his power would be useless, and that meant he needed to get to Hope Academy somehow.

Serhe wrote a letter to the Academy, outlining his situation as best he could and reluctantly telling them the general guidelines of his power. After all, there was no way they'd take a barely-competent Enhancer into their ranks, right? When he got his acceptance letter, to the surprise and shock of his family, Serhe tried his best to hide his smirk as he began packing his bags.
